Food security and Agriculture in St. Maarten

What if the ships stop coming in, how will we eat?
Food security is an urgent issue in St. Maarten, due to its extreme dependence on food imports.

The Universities of St. Martin, Curaçao, and Aruba collaborated on research in food security and agriculture on the three islands.

The research paper “Investigating Challenges and Opportunities in Developing Local Agriculture Food Production Systems in Sint Maarten” by Hoogstad et al. (2024), explores various solutions in the context of St. Maarten. It outlines concrete interventions which are being developed as we speak.
