We asked what voters view as reliable sources for political matters. The 1st rank is most reliable and the 6th least.

How to read the chart: pick one information source. The six bars per information source, represent the percentage of people that rank them from most (1-green) to least (6-purple) reliable.

We see that for news outlets (first stack), nearly 50% (green bar), by far the highest, rank them as most reliable, and another 20% (blue bar) rank them as second most important.

For direct messages from politicians (last stack), 40% (purple bar) rank these as least reliable. For reliability of information from people known personally, 31% (orange bar), the highest amount, rank these as 5th least reliable, out of 6.

We asked voters what influences their voting decisions, with the 1st rank as most influential and the 6th least.

How to read the chart: pick one issue. The six bars per issue, represent the percentage of people that rank them from most (1-green) to least (6-purple) influential.

We observe that the extent to which voter identify with the values of parties or politicians, is ranked by 33% (green bar) as most influential in impacting voting decision, and 19% (blue bar), as second most influential. How people’s personal situation is impacted is ranked by 35% (purple bar), as least influential in impacting voting decision, though in total 34% (green and blue bar) rank it as first and second most influential in impacting voting decision.

For the extent to which livelihoods of all people in St. Maarten are improved, we see a clear skewness to the left, indicating that most people rank it high in terms of influencing their voting decision.

For providing political stability, we see an even higher skewness, but this time to the right, indicating that a clear majority of voters have ranked this low in terms of influencing their voting decision.

 

We decided to not include questions about cultural or ethnic background. Though this may provide interesting insights, it may also cause divide.
